Who We Serve
Sophia Academy awakens the genius of students with learning and developmental differences through an arts-based, multi-sensory, and research driven education in small classes that allow students who struggle to find academic and personal success.
Students at Sophia are bright but may be held back by dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, ADHD, trauma, autism, anxiety disorder, genetic syndromes, and brain injury.

Multi-Sensory and Multi-Modal
(Soon to include the IWBMC educational and therapeutic model for neurodiverse students)
With small classes, capped at seven, and our multi-sensory curricula along with evidence-based instruction, we provide an effective education for students who often fall through the educational cracks as well as for smart students who need a non-traditional education. Over the years we have added occupational therapy, Kinetic Classroom, SMARTS Executive Function, on-site counseling, social-emotional learning, and dual enrollment with Esperanza College.
We are happy to announce that we are working toward becoming a network school using the one-of-a-kind global, educational, and therapeutic model for the neurodiverse community known as Interpersonal Whole-Brain Model of Care (IWBMC), that was pioneered by The Jacob’s Ladder Group.
What We Value
Because God created the world and all the people in it, calling them “good,” we value exploration, creativity, and play as the best way to discover the good in the universe and in each other.
Learning at Sophia Academy is active:

Through the use of manipulatives such as tiles, blocks, and overlays, students are able to improve reading and math skills by multiple grade levels.
Discovery, experimentation, and creativity are emphasized. Students show mastery through hands-on projects.
Students practice executive function skills in a dedicated class and across the curriculum.
Students learn valuable skills through woodworking, chair caning, culinary lessons, and the like.
- Our curriculum is designed to meet the educational and therapeutic needs of each student, providing real and obvious success to students while preparing them for future college or career.
- Outside-the-classroom learning is encouraged through frequent field trips and outdoor classes.
- Small class sizes ensure appropriate intervention and attention for each student.
- Music, art, and instruction in artisan crafts enable students to access both sides of their brain and operate in areas of strength each week.
