At Sophia Academy, many classes serve as therapeutic interventions that build on the plasticity of the brain for cognitive development as well as personal social and emotional growth.
Art and Music develop right brains to complement a left-brained world. Students experience the value of self-expression as they think creatively and learn to problem-solve. Our arts program bridges the gap between school lessons and real life. The visual and performing arts is integrated with the Academy’s academic curriculum and includes both fine arts and commercial arts.
Artisan crafts and hands-on “trades” such as chair caning, cooking, gardening, and woodworking utilize the concept of “crossing the midline” as well as the regulating power of hands-on work to provide student success.

Individualized interventions develop working memory, increase processing speed, and provide new neural pathways for academic success.
